Q:   How did you get started in winemaking?

A friend of ours from high school was a home winemaker.  He had a simple process of making wine from non-carbonated juice that he bought at the grocery store.  He added sugar, yeast, and … voila… the wine made itself.  If he could do it, so could we!

Q:  How long have you been making wine?

We bottle our first batch in December 2008

Q:  What was your first wine batch?

White grape peach.

Q:  What type of wine do you make?

Mostly wines from kits, juice buckets, or canned fruits.  We have made: Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese, Red Grape Zinfandel, White Grape Zinfandel, Moscato, Grapefruit Passion Rosé, Blood Orange Sangria, Sangiovese Rosé, Blueberry, Blackberry Cabernet, Kiwi Pear, Apricot and others I’ve forgotten!

Q:  What are your favorite wines to drink?

Dennis prefers dry whites; Barbara the semi-dry reds or fruits.  But really, we like it all!

Q:  Do you grow grapes?

No

Q:  What kind do you grow?

None

Q:  How long have you been with SWiG?

We joined immediately after the 2019 Carlisle Art, Music and Wine Walk.

Q:  How did you come to find the SWiG?

See the above answer.

Q:  What are your hobbies or favorite things to do?

Barbara enjoys sewing and painting.  She is an accomplished water color artist and has experience in other painting media.  She is an excellent sewer (you name it – she sews it), but her love is making quilts.  She makes “Quilts for Kids”, as part of a consortium of ladies who provide quilts for children in need of comfort – either through misfortune or sickness.

Dennis makes wine (obviously), plays golf, and still cooks and bakes on a fairly regular basis.
